I thought about the earth then, really thought about it, the tsunami's and earthquakes and volcanoes, all the horrors I haven't witnessed but have changed my life, the lives of everyone I know, all the people I'll never know. I thought about life without the sun, the moon, stars, without flowers and warm days in May. I thought about a year ago and all the good things I'd taken for granted and all the unbearable things that had replaced those simple blessings. When I read this poem it reminded me of a moment in time. A time when a lot of things were going on for me and a lot of things were happening. I was thinking about all the horrors I have witnessed, earthquakes and tsunamis and volcanoes and all the terrible things that have happened to the earth. But the world is still here, there are still flowers, there are still warm days in may, there are still stars in the sky.
It's just different now. There's no denying that we live through different times now than back then.
